London’s First Screening Programme for Ovarian Cancer
|
Date Added: Friday 11 June, 2010
London Bridge Hospital is launching the first formal screening service
for ovarian cancer, a disease that’s often discovered when it has
reached an advanced stage.
Ovarian cancer is less common than breast or colon cancer but is more
lethal. Of the 7000 new cases discovered every year, six thousand
patients cannot be cured. The survival rates are worse than all other
gynaecological cancers.
The disease, known as the silent killer, is difficult to spot in its
early stages and frequently its symptoms in later stages are
misdiagnosed. |

London Bridge Hospital begins major £15 million upgrade programme
|
Date Added: Friday 11 June, 2010
Work has begun on one of the largest developments at London Bridge
Hospital since it opened 23 years ago. The £15 million scheme will
create two new state of the art integrated operating theatres on the
ground floor, a new Intensive Care Unit and 14 new in-patient rooms plus
a range of other new facilities.
The whole of the hospital’s second floor is being refurbished with
inpatient rooms being reconfigured and redecorated with new shower/wet
rooms. Additional work is also being carried out on part of the 5th
floor. Contemporary design and heightened awareness of the need for
durable, clean surfaces have given us the opportunity to take a step
in the hospital’s look and finishes.
