The endoscopy service at Hammersmith Hospital offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for 10,000 patients per year, including upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, EUS, ERCP, biliary manometry, capsule endoscopy, enteroscopy and bronchoscopy.
The Hammersmith Hospital is a regional centre for benign and malignant hepatobiliary and pancreatobiliary disease. There is a close relationship between the medical and surgical pancreatobiliary services, including joint medical and surgical clinics. The medical pancreatobiliary unit has a specialised interest in advanced pancreatobiliary endoscopy, including EUS and ERCP.
Other interests include the diagnosis and management of both inflammatory and functional bowel disease. There are research interests in coeliac disease and bile salt malabsorption. We have a specialist clinic nurse who undertakes drug monitoring and a liaison nurse who advises on pre-asssesment prior to investigations. The onsite hepatological services are linked closely with the liver unit at St Mary’s Hospital.
IBD (ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease) patients are seen at Hammersmith and Charing Cross hospitals. Complex IBD patients are cared for at Hammersmith supported by specialist nurses, pharmacists, radiologists and dieticians. Surgery for IBD patients is carried out generally at Charing Cross Hospital.
We see patients on an urgent basis if required.
Location
The endoscopy unit is situated on the 1st floor above outpatients.
